THE LAB

7-WEEK LAB
In each LAB (total 7 sessions) 12 talented directors and 12 experienced actors are selected through an application process to work alongside each other to learn rehearsal techniques, script analysis and how to better communicate.
The sessions take place on a Thursday evenings 6:30-10pm in Central London.
The craft of directing actors which most might have read about in Judith Weston’s books will only come with practice, hence the reason why Judith originally setup the AD LAB 15+ years ago. Many of Judith’s students went on to win awards and become nominated for Oscars - they make it no secret they learnt everything they knew at the LAB. There are countless months if not years before we as directors get to be on set, why not hone our skills and learn to better communicate with actors in a safe and supportive environment so that we avoid mistakes when we are finally on set. -
THE LAB INTENSIVE
Designed for directors who are unable to make the 7 weeks LAB, the Intensive is a two day immersive journey into the craft of directing actors and takes place on a Friday evening and all day Saturday.
The LAB Intensive brings together 6 directors and 12 experienced actors. It is open to less experienced directors and although there is still an interview process submission into the LAB is not as strict.
Directors will be paired with two actors in advance of the LAB. The primary focus on Friday evening is the “directors tool kit,” understanding script analysis and the practice of rehearsal technique. The next day is dedicated to directors rehearsing scenes with professional actors in a partially supervised setting. Due to time constraints, each director can only direct one scene.
